MALVERN'S Elliot McDonald won a bronze medal representing the British University Taekwondo League (BUTL) national squad at the Open European Championships in Poland.
The 21-year-old former pupil of Dyson Perrins Academy and Worcester Sixth Form College gained a black belt in taekwondo under the tutelage of Master Julian Burton of Bromyard Schools of Taekwondo who hold classes in Malvern and Leigh
Sinton.
McDonald, who is studying for a degree in computing at Manchester Metropolitan University, is on his placement year in the IT department of Manchester United, rubbing shoulders with football superstars and management.
He was selected to the BUTL national squad in March after successful appearances representing the North Universities League champions Met.
The championships in Strzegom provided him with his first opportunity to represent the squad who train at GB Olympic Taekwondo Centre in Manchester which has produced world champions in the sport.
