AN apprentice from Sedgley has been given a top award.

Daniel Millington, who works at HydraForce Hydraulics Ltd in Birmingham, was given the Rolls-Royce Award for Advanced Apprentice of the Year at this year's National Apprenticeship Awards.

The 23-year-old said he was "absolutely thrilled" to win, adding: "I chose my apprenticeship as I’ve always been thoroughly interested in the manufacturing and engineering sectors. I’ve always been taking things apart and putting them back together, enabling me to find out how things work, for as long as I can remember.

"My apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to work within a fast paced and energetic company which has seen unbelievable growth, along with gaining invaluable experience and working on business critical projects which are allowing me to travel to a range of countries and work alongside numerous professionals.

"I hope to gain my engineers status in the near-future with the aspiration of working up to a senior managers level.”

Daniel received his award at a ceremony at Birmingham's Macdonald Burlington Hotel on September 24.
