THE Autumn in Malvern festival is set to go into its second weekend.

On Saturday Worcestershire's forgotten organist Hugh Blair is the subject of a talk at The Beauchamp Community at Newland at 3pm. Admission is £8.

Presented by Kevin Allen, it offers a long overdue revaluation of Blair, the dynamic, colourful and controversial Worcester Cathedral organist.

The illustrated talk is based on Mr Allen's forthcoming biography of Blair, who had a close association with Elgar and musical life in Worcester at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

And on Sunday, historian Brian Iles offers a guided tour of Great Malvern's commemorative plaques, which mark the presence in the town of diverse visitors including a emperor, a future US president, queens, film stars, eminent musicians and scientists.

The tour starts at Belle Vue Island at 3pm and tickets are £6.

Elmslie House in Avenue Road is the venue for a National Poetry Day event on Thursday, October 4, when Tim Cranmore, Worcestershire's poet laureate 2013/4 introduced a selection of local poets reading their work.

The event is at 7.30pm and tickets are £8.

Autumn in Malvern runs until the end of October, and among the major attractions to come are concerts by the Royal Northern College of Music Ensemble, Roman Simovic and Aldwyn Voices.
