A MALVERN man raised £153 for Malvern Special Families after taking part in his first-ever five-kilometre race.

John Zoro took part in the race at Dorridge to help the charity's work of providing social opportunities for children and young people with disabilities, whilst giving their families a break from their caring duties.

Maria Munday of the charity said: “John has been an enthusiastic fundraiser for Malvern Special Families, completely smashing his original fundraising target. As it’s National Volunteers Week we’d like to say a big thank-you to him and to all of our community fundraising volunteers this week - their fundraising efforts are vital to our small charity.”

Me Zoro spent five weeks training for the event, wearing out a pair of trainers in the process, and he ran the race in 37 minutes 40 seconds on one of the hottest days of the year.

He said: “I wanted to show my support for families who have children with disabilities. I appreciate that family life can be really tough for these families. Malvern Special Families is a lovely small charity and I am glad I could help in some small way.”
