COUNCILLORS and staff from Malvern Hills District Council are joining forces with residents to take on the litter louts as part of this year’s Great British Spring Clean.

The nationwide clean-up takes place between Friday to Sunday, March 2 to 4, and across the district the council’s Litter Hit Squad will be swinging into action to help clear the streets of rubbish.

There are three council-run litter picks taking place on Friday, March 2

The first is in the Sherrards Green area of Malvern, meeting at at Malvern Town Football Club in Langland Avenue at 10am for a pick up to 1.5 miles. Free tea, coffee and cake will be available at the club afterwards.

The second is at Newland, meeting at the Swan Inn car park at 1pm for a pick up to 1.5 miles. Free tea, coffee and biscuits afterwards are being provided by the pub.

Cllr Chris O’Donnell, chairman of Malvern Hills District Council who will be taking part in the litter pick at Sherrards Green, said: “We live in a beautiful part of the world but unfortunately a minority of thoughtless individuals continue to blight it by treating our delightful district as a rubbish bin.

“The Great British Spring Clean is a chance for us to join together against the litter louts and clean up the environment on our doorstep.”

The Great British Spring Clean is run by Keep Britain Tidy and this year aims to bring 400,000 people across the country together to clean up the litter that blights towns, villages, countrysides and beaches.
