PUPILS and staff from St Matthias CE Primary School in Malvern Link are celebrating after being awarded a Premier League Primary Stars kit and equipment pack.

The pack contains a whole school football kit in the school colours and a resource pack for the teachers to use for PE lessons.

The kit and equipment pack forms part of the Premier League Primary Stars offer to schools in England and Wales.

This is a curriculum-linked education programme that uses the appeal of the Premier League and its clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important skills.

Delivered by the Football Foundation, the scheme gives teachers a range of equipment and lessons that can be used across different curriculum areas to get children active.

It also includes free resources for English, Maths, PE and personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education across Key Stages 1 and 2.

The easy-to-use materials have been developed in partnership with education organisations including the National Literacy Trust and the PSHE Association. The resources use real-life sport examples to put lessons into a relevant and engaging context for children.

Richard Scudamore, executive chairman of the Premier League and Football Foundation Trustee, said: “Congratulations to St Matthias on their successful application for a kit and equipment pack. We hope this kit, coupled with the free downloadable online resources, will help teachers harness the popularity of football to inspire primary school kids in everything from maths and English to teamwork and sport.”

Carl Salmon, the school's PE and sports coordinator, said: “This reward is going to be very helpful in supporting our teachers to continue the delivery of high-class PE lessons in which the children will be inspired to be healthy and make good lifestyle choices.

" Our Year 1 and 2 boys have already benefited from the new kit and were wearing it with pride during a football competition at Dyson Perrins in November. We look forward to attending many more competitions wearing our new kit.”
