JENNIE Cole made it four in a row in the Tandler Pairs on a second day of finals at Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowling Club.

Cole, having achieved the Tandler hat-trick last year, teamed up with a new partner, Mike Mallett, this time around and the pair raced into an 18-1 lead against Lester and Sheila Bennett. Picking up a full house of eight on the way, Cole and Mallett eased to victory 33-10.

It was a similar story in the Albert Duval, the experienced pairing of Karen Tandler and Helen Skinner taking a commanding 15-2 lead against Sue Webb and Mike Owen. A mini revival kept the game competitive with Tandler and Skinner eventually running out winners 18-7.

The afternoon session matched Howard Turberfield and Doug Smurthwaite against Mike Owen and Barbara Griffiths in the Barnet Bowl. Played over 11 ends, a fast start was essential and it was Turberfield and Smurthwaite who raced away to a 12-3 lead before sealing the win 14-4.

It was closer in the eight-end Cecil O’Boyle Plate, Sheila Bennett, Doug Turner and Richard Griffiths triumphing 8-5 against Josie Ward, Cyril Wait and Doug Smurthwaite.

The best was saved for last with a thrilling John Collett triples final, the game swinging to and fro right to the very end.

Doug Turner, Bill Wheatley and Richard Griffiths got the best of the early exchanges but a four with the jack in the ditch put Jim Allen, Howard Turberfield and Jimmy Lindsay right back in it.

With the scores tied at 11-11 Griffiths’ team pulled away to win 16-12.
