A PUB is hosting a dog show to help raise funds for the Midlands Air Ambulance.

The Cider Mill, in Pershore Road, Evesham has a tradition of undertaking charitable events, namely the Evesham Relay for Life, where over the past five years since Julia and Ian Gittus took over the pub they have raised in excess of £30,000.

The pub will host the show on Saturday September 2, in the large beer garden.

A number of different categories will be open including cutest puppy, dog that looks most like its owner and the best senior citizen class.

Just for Pets, who are supporting the day, are offering a £10 gift voucher for each of the eight classes and a £20 voucher for the overall winner.

There will also be a tombola stall, a name the cuddly toy puppy stall and Midlands Air Ambulance balloons for sale.

Just for Pets will also be having a stand where visitors can treat their pets from a range of goodies on offer.

Speaking about why they chose the Midlands Air Ambulance, Mrs Gittus said: "The majority of our customers drive either motorbikes or cars, we host a Sunday league football team, I used to ride horses competitively, all of us take our dogs for walks and in any of these circumstances accidents or injuries can occur and we could all suffer a medical emergency at any time.

"In some cases a road ambulance just can’t reach the casualty or the injury/illness is so severe that the time to get to hospital is critical – this is when the Midlands Air Ambulance is always there.

"The statistics for Hereford and Worcester in 2016 were staggering, they attended 452 call outs in 2016.

"Each of these missions costs £2,500 and it costs more than £7 million each year to keep its 3 air ambulances operational."

"Unlike many other charities, the Midlands Air Ambulance receives no Government or National Lottery funding and is totally reliant on charitable donations.

"We feel that they do such a fantastic job that the least we could do was try and raise as much money as possible for them to remain flying and saving lives. You never know when you could need their services."
