HAVING gone through two seasons of transition and consolidation as older players retired and new blood was introduced, Malvern's director of rugby David Robins is looking for a successful 2007/8 season across the board.

He said: "With strengthened first team squad welcoming back returnees from injury and travel, plus a clutch of new signings, I'm looking for at least a top three league position next season.

"The increased competition for places in an expanded squad means that the second team will also benefit, and we have therefore entered it into the new North Midlands Southern Conference. This will give the seconds competitive league rugby, with nine teams playing home and away, plus end of season play-offs.

"The net benefit will mean that, rather than having people on the first team bench week after week, we can bring in a rotation system to give everyone competitive rugby with the extra sharpness it brings. The same will apply to the Third XV, who will play in the Hereford and Worcester merit table. We will also field and U17 squad as a bridge between the youth and senior sections of the club."

Formal training will commence next Tuesday, July 17, with sessions at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Any players moving into the area, wishing to play at any level, will receive a warm welcome and should turn up at the club for training.

Robins also said that he was in negotiations to sign four or five new players, many with previous National League experience.

He said: "We have lacked cover in some key positions recently and I hope that the players I am talking to will provide this and a wealth of experience to pass on."
