100 years ago WHAT might have been a serious accident occurred on Wednesday morning in Church Street. As Mr Reeves, the Conductor of the Municipal Orchestra, was walking slowly along it he was knocked down by a motor cyclist, who was proceeding down the hill at a rapid pace. Mr Reeves, besides being considerably shaken, had one of his hands injured. The cyclist rushed on his way, but returned about five minuted afterwards and expressed regret at the occurence. It is a very common thing for motorists to proceed at a scorching pace up and down Church Street and the wonder is that we are not called upon to report frequent accidents. Malvern Gazette, June 28, 1907.

SUNSHINE and warmth are declared by agriculturalists to be necessary to prevent an unfavourable season proving a disastrous one. On the heavy lands, the prolonged rains and cold nights have been very injurious. With regard to fruit crops, the anticipations formed earlier in the season, as to the yield, have not been realised. The climatic conditions, according to forecasts, do not indicate any immediate change in the prevalent showery weather. Ledbury Free Press, July 2, 1907.

50 years ago "COMPLAINTS of young people carrying air guns without a licence are becoming numerous and the County Taxation Department hopes this case will act as a warning to others," remarked Mr W H Flexman at Malvern juvenile Court on Tuesday when two 16-year-old boys admitted carrying a gun without a licence on March 2. Both were given a conditional discharge for 12 month and ordered to pay four shillings court costs. Mr Flexman, who was prosecuting for the County Taxation Department, said the police and his department were being caused a lot of trouble through young people carrying guns. Malvern Gazette, June 28, 1957.

25 years ago WORK on a notorious Worcesteshire accident blackspot due to start two weeks ago could be delayed for a further 18 months.

An objection lodged with the Department of the Environment over the purchase of common land at Hanley Swan crossroads has halted realignment work.

The £40,000 scheme could have been under way in the middle of June. Unless the objection is withdrawn, a public inquiry could hold it up for another 18 months and locals fear lives could be lost. Malvern Gazette, July 1, 1982.

CYCLING is to be prohibited in one way or another on the footpaths of the Deer Park estate, Ledbury. Ledbury Rural Parish Council, last week, considered how best to prevent mis-use of the footways, a warren of interconnecting paths which provide short-cuts in the estate and which has become attractive to local children, as cycle tracks. Ledbury Reporter, July 1, 1982.
