TWO planning applications totalling more than 100 houses are due to go before Malvern Hills district councillors next week.

The applications are for 55 houses off Bransford Road, Rushwick, near the edge of Worcester, and a further 49 homes on land overlooking the A449 at Powick.

Both are being recommended for approval by the council's planning officers.

The Rushwick application, made by Kier Living Ltd of Solihull, drew objections from 29 local residents, who voiced a range of concerns including overdevelopment of the village, the inadequacy of the existing road network, the risks of flooding on the site and overcrowding courts.

The detailed application follows the approval of an outline scheme for 41 houses on the site in October last year.

The Powick plan, submitted by Malvern-based Fortis Living, 20 residents, many of them from the existing Winsmore estate through which the new development would be reached.

They say that the site was recommended for 35 homes in the South Worcestershire Development Plan and that number should not be exceeded.

They also say that the access is inadequate and dangerous and parking is insufficient.

Both plans are on the agenda when the council's Northern Area Development Management Committee meets at the Council Chamber, Avenue Road, Malvern, on Wednesday, February 1 at 6pm.
