MALVERN Wells & Wyche WI have certainly organised an extraordinarily interesting year of speakers this year if the rest of the year carries on in the same way as they have so far. We have had a talk about Defibrillators a very necessary knowledge to learn in this day and age, David Briggs telling us about his young life in the Pennines, an interesting talk with photos of the early life in Malvern with Faith Ranger, who also brought along some clothing and household items from Malvern Museum and then Jim Skerrett who has worked for 25 years in Worcester Porcelain.

Jim paints on bone china using mediums such as metallic oxide and 22 carat gold. He can paint almost anything, from landscapes with sheep, which he easily painted on a plate with hills and sky adding clouds and grass. He built up a picture of the famous fruit and berries Worcester Porcelain is so famous for, showing us how to make apples look round, the different colours in grapes and how blackberries all look so different on each stalk. On tiles he painted firstly a lovely little hedgehog gradually building up his spines and then a furry teddy bear. All the time he was working he was keeping up an amusing banter. Thank you Jim for an educational and very amusing evening.

All our other interesting events are also held throughout the month, such as, Book Club, Hand Bell Ringing, Craft, Coffee with Books and our popular Lunch Group, this month visiting The Elgar out on the A38 from Upton. Many more lunches and visits out are also planned for us to choose and enjoy during the year.

Next month we have our AGM with produce to buy and puddings to taste.

We meet on the second Thursday of every month at the Wells Village Hall so why not come along and enjoy an evening in friendly company, or if you would like to chat to someone first, ring 01684 560149 and speak to Trish or Lillian on 01684 565556.
