OUR first talk of the year held at Croome Canteen on Friday, January 15 was given by Dr. Richard Churchley who gave an informative and highly entertaining talk on Folklore and Customs Through Song. Dr. Churchley took us through the months telling us about the various customs in Worcestershire and Warwickshire at different times of the year. The talk was interspersed with folk songs and our members joined in the choruses with much enjoyment. For many of our members the talk brought back many happy childhood memories. We went through a journey which took us Wassailing, First Footing, Maypole Dancing, Morris Dancing and Mummers Plays. It was a very enjoyable start to the new year.
Our next meeting will be our AGM followed by a talk by Peter Riley who will bring us up to date with what is happening in the National Trust. This will be on Saturday, February 6 at Powick Village Hall at 2pm.
