STORRIDGE WI

THE President was pleased to welcome both members and the WI Advisor, Mrs M L Lockyer, to the May Resolutions and Annual Meeting.

Mary Herbert reported on the luncheon with Michael Portillo that seven members attended. She spoke very highly of Mr Portillo as a speaker and of the quality of the luncheon provided.

Members were reminded that they could watch the NFWI Centenary Annual meeting, live from the Royal Albert Hall in London, at Malvern Cinema on June 4 from 10.30am to 5pm. Tickets should be booked with and purchased directly from the cinema.

On October 9 there will be a trip to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire; the coach will depart from Worcester. The morning will be spent at the Arboretum and in the afternoon the coach will take the short journey to Lichfield where passengers will get free time to explore on their own.

The Treasurer presented the Financial Statement and the Auditors were appointed for the coming year before the President and the Secretary delivered their reports. It was the unanimous decision of members that Catherine Best should be asked if she would continue as President for the coming year, to which she agreed.

Mrs Lockyer took members through the details of what is the very complex resolution to be put before delegates at the Annual Meeting in June. Even after a very lively debate, members still felt that they were unable to endorse the resolution and discretion was given to the delegate, Josie Lowe, to vote on their behalf once she had heard the debate at the Annual Meeting.

The next meeting will take place on June 11 when John Dixon will be speaking about Barbara Cartland. Members are invited to wear pink for the evening! Visitors will be most welcome.
