A PETITION to protect Malvern's former hospital from demolition has been signed by178 people within six days of being launched.
The Malvern Gazette revealed last week that developer Montpelier Estates wants to buy the site, knock down the 100-year old building and build a new care home.
The company says the existing structure will be difficult to adapt to modern needs.
Malvern Civic Society says it will be opposed to knocking down the building, which was given to the town by philanthropist C W Dyson Perrins.
The petition, which calls on the Malvern Hills District Council to refuse any application which involves demolishing the building, is on the change.org website.
No planning application has yet been made, but Montpelier Estates says it is looking for a venue to hold a public consultation event later this month.
