A LOVER of the Malvern Hills is starting up a new group to resist plans for a cable car on the Worcestershire Beacon.
Richard Edwards of Moorlands Road, is launching Voice of the Malvern Hills with a public meeting next weekend, and he hopes as many people as possible can attend.
Mr Edwards says he is setting up the group "to galvanise support for those wishing to preserve and protect the natural landscape of the hills".
The group's first meeting will be at the Malvern Cube, Albert Road North, on Saturday, March 28, starting at 4.30pm.
"I hope that all who love and cherish the the Malvern Hills will come and support this new venture," said Mr Edwards.
Among the group's objectives are to campaign against commercial exploitation of the hills, to encourage an understanding of the natural landscape, flora and fauna of the hills, to encourage disabled people to use the hills, especially by monitoring the condition of appropriate pathways and by promoting better awareness of suitable routes, and to work alongside other organisations which share the same values.
