ON Tuesday, October 28 Ann Oldfield opened our meeting and welcomed Adrian Cooke, our demonstrator who invited us to join him Down the Garden Path.

His first delightful arrangement was set against a trellis to welcome you into the garden and included mauve gladioli, white and pink carnations, pink stargazer lilies, small soft blue hydrangea heads and tiny pink spray chrysanthemums.

Adrian's second arrangement represented a border for which he used a ring made out of dried vine with an oasis ring placed inside. Tall red cornus, blue iris, red gerberas, red tulips, yellow roses and peach carnations were used with the length of each flower reducing as he worked around the ring.

A piece of driftwood which might have been found on a beach or in a hedge was the backdrop to the third arrangement, which included mauve gladioli and hebe, red sedum, blue aconitum, white carnations, pale pink lilies and pink gerberas with a white edge.

For the fourth arrangement we went into Potting Shed. Adrian used a large terracotta plant pot which he filled with tall orange gerberas and red cornus to cage them then surrounded the base of the stems with short orange spray carnations, orange and yellow roses and gold spray chrysanthemums with rusty centres.

A long terracotta trough, to be placed by the barbecue, was next. It was filled with a mass of greenery including, heuchera and ivy leaves, poppy seed heads, rose hips, stinky iris berries, pyracantha berries and echinacea heads, along with yellow gerberas, red spray chrysanthemums with lime centres, roses, carnations and pink gerberas.

The final, elegant arrangement was set in a grey urn and was a delightful combination of red gladioli, orange lilies, peach carnations, orange roses with yellow edges and gerberas ranging in colour from yellow to orange.

Adrian lives in a flat, but is able to pick greenery from a nearby garden which is stocked with the most wonderful variety of foliage which made his arrangements a real joy.

The competition Colourful Autumn winners were Audrey Yarranton and Jean Morris.

Our next meeting, on Tuesday, November 25, at 2pm is our Christmas meeting and we are delighted that Delyth Price will be our demonstrator. Visitors are most welcome.
