THE work of a horticultural therapy centre at Powick will be celebrated with a special open day next Saturday, October 4.

The Link Nurseries, off Hospital Lane, provides occupational therapy for people with mental health problems, growing fruit and vegetables.

And a range of seasonal produce grown there will be on sale during the Celebration of Gardening, Horticulture and Mental Wellbeing which will be held at Powick Village Hall from 11am to 4pm.

The event has been organised by the Friend of the Link Nurseries as part of World Mental Health Week.

Admissions is free, and visitors can listen to talks by garden experts and nursery owners, and buy plants, produce and preserves grown and made by clients and staff.

Horticultural experts from Pershore College will be on hand to answer gardening queries, and there will be a tombola with gardening-themed prizes and a raffle for quilts made by the centre's clients.

There will be cakes and refreshments by made by WI members plus locally-sourced hot lunches.

Judith Aldridge of the Friends said: "It's one of our biggest events, and there is plenty to see and do, so I hope that lots of people come along and enjoy it."
