THERE was a home win at the area heat of the Toastmasters International Speech and Evaluation Contest hosted by the Malvern Speakers club last weekend.
In the face of keen competition from experienced contenders from Newbury, Thamesdown and Cheltenham, Malvern’s Hilary Benoit was adjudged the winner with her sparkling and inspirational speech Get Out of that Armchair!, delivered with confidence and humour, and without notes of any kind.
Hilary’s success means that she will represent the area at Newbury at the next stage of this truly international competition. Should she win there, she could qualify for a trip to Ireland and beyond that even to the international finals at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia!
Her success was another feather in the cap of this thriving young club which will not mark its first anniversary until next month.
