A CARE worker is celebrating after receiving national recognition for his work helping people recover from brain injuries.

Adam Moreton, from Ledbury, beat stiff competition to be named a finalist in the national Caring Times Awards.

The 29-year-old started work at Ledbury Health and Community Centre, in Market Street, back in 2007.

He has since worked his way through his nursing grades and is now the deputy manager of the Shaw Healthcare specialist Market Lodge ABI service, which offers transitional care to people who have lived through an acquired brain injury.

His nomination came in the specialist service manager category and saw him invited to London to be grilled by an expert panel.

He was then invited to attend a glittering awards ceremony held at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel.

Although he did not win, Mr Moreton said he was thrilled just to make the final four-person shortlist.

“I was over the moon to be nominated.

The event in London was amazing. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole team for their hard work and dedication to the unit. Without them, none of this would have been possible,”

he said.

“Our ultimate aim is rehabilitate people back into a supported living environment in their local community.

“We also offer long-term care here for those who need long-term, high-level support. I have a great team who work with me here on a day-to-day basis. We just get on with our work, you don’t think about awards.”

He also thanked his unit manager Lorraine Cooling, who helped to write his nomination and who he described as his “inspiration”.

She said Mr Moreton’s recognition is richly deserved.

“Adam is such a hard worker, he deserves to be recognised for his total commitment to the unit,” she said.

“He is very passionate about the delivery of care and this is demonstrated in his person-centred care planning.”
