A FUND-RAISING weekend for the Marie Curie cancer charity is being hailed as a major success by organisers, after more than £2,000 was raised.

A key event was the “Blooming Great Tea Party”, held in the grounds of a private house near Hope End, Wellington Heath.

Event spokeswoman, Jan Long said: “With more than 100 guests all drinking tea or coffee from “posh” china cups and scrumptious homemade cakes served from glass platters, including clotted cream, strawberries and scones from nominated award winning baker Jon Brierley, the afternoon tea party was hailed as a major success.”

The raffle tickets sellers were doing a brisk trade and the guided walks around verdant countryside attracted a group of 30 people, all of whom returned with a good appetite for their tea and cake!”

Marie Curie spokesman, Bruce Foster said that when the money count had been completed, it had exceeded all expectations and that he was “bowled over” by the generosity of all those who supported the events and continue to help the Marie Curie cause.

He also praised Marie Curie’s hardworking team for all their work and sitting down to a well earned cup of tea, and he proclaimed the event a “blooming great success!”
