MALVERN has oft been described as a drab, dull place and the council derided for their lack of imagination in attempting to lure visitors, tourists and shoppers to the town.

No longer! If you use the car park opposite Splash, as I do every day, you will have noticed a daub of colour now adorns one side of a hitherto nondescript area of concrete.

Bright green parking bays have been created, a little gaudy perhaps and not quite matching the green of the surrounding foliage but, hey, it’s a start.

At first, it has to be said that my heart sank when I noticed electric outlets on pillars had been erected, presumably in the hope and expectation these bays would seen be filled with electric cars.

Mercifully, my initial dismay slowly evaporated as the months rolled by and not a single bay was ever used, even at the busiest of times.

But why was I ever in doubt? When I come to think of it, I am conscious of the fact that I have never seen an electric car.

Nor do I know anyone who has ever seen one.

So, rest easy in your beds, dear readers and conservationists; the green spaces of Malvern are unlikely to be lost to us for some years to come.
