THE father of a Malvern boy promised a multi-million pound settlement after being starved of oxygen during birth says he has been approached by others seeking help.

A High Court judge approved a settlement for 11- year-old Daniel Spencer who was left with cerebral palsy and in need of 24- hour care.

The judge agreed that midwives at Worcestershire Royal Hospital were slow to respond when mum Susan began bleeding during birth and also failed to call a doctor when Daniel’s heart rate started fluctuating.

Dad Olly says people have been kind to the Barnards Green family since the news broke.

“I have had quite a few people coming up to me saying congratulations,” he said. “Two people have also asked me for advice because they have problems with health bodies.”

He said he has also had messages of support, including Facebook notes, from parents at the Regency High School in Worcester which Daniel attends.

“I would like to thank our friends who have given us such valuable support over the years and the marvellous work that is done by all the staff, physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists at Fort Royal Primary School [his previous school] and Regency High School,”

said Mr Spencer.

“It would have been a struggle [without the settlement].

My wife had to give up her job to care for Daniel.

“People think that we’re going to be well off but the money is for him.”

The family is now looking to the future.

“We are hoping to take part in the Birmingham half marathon later this year,” he added.

The aim is to raise money for Cerebra, a charity specialising in helping people and families deal with cerebral palsy.
