AN Upton mum’s efforts to raise funds and awareness for rare blood disorders received a big boost with a £1,000 donation.

Ruby Edwards founded Funny Blood in 2009 when her son Noah – then aged just one – had a platelet function disorder diagnosed, a rare condition making him prone to excessive bruising.

Students at Hanley Castle High School have been raising funds for Funny Blood all year.

Funny Blood has already raised enough money to buy new lab equipment and employ a fellow over the summer at the University of Birmingham.

Ms Edwards has applied for the cause to become an official charity and is organising a fund-raising art exhibition and auction at Stanbrook Abbey in Callow End in March.
