A BAND from Malvern have got anything but the blues after winning a prestigious award voted for by the contributors to a leading industry magazine.

BabaJack’s blues-inspired sound has earned them the accolade as the best band in the 2012 BluesMatters Writers Poll, which is compiled by the people behind the publication.

It marks quite a year for the trio of Becky Tate, Trevor Steger and Marc Miletich, who saw Becky named as instrumentalist of the year at the British Blues Awards in September, as well as being named runners-up in the best acoustic act category.

Becky said: “The contributors to BluesMatters magazine are among some of the most dedicated champions of the blues genre in this country, and it is an honour to be singled out by them.

“This has been a great year for us with our successes at the British Blues Awards and this is just the cherry on the cake.”

They almost tasted more success by ranking as runners-up in best newcomers and best album categories. Another chance for glory will come when they represent the UK in the European Blues Challenge, organised by the European Blues Union, in Toulouse, France, on March 8-9, 2013.

Before that they are set to start recording their fourth album in February.

Becky said: “We are really excited about the new material – some great energy and interesting rhythmic stuff is in the pipeline – and that we are going back to Twin Peaks Studio to record this album with our producer Adam Fuest.”
