A CONVICTED sex offender was found at a house with children as young as five despite being banned from having contact with under-16s.

Kurt Beilby told police he felt like an “idiot” for breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order imposed on him in March 2011.

Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting, said police received information from a social worker who had attended an address in Elgar Avenue, Malvern, for a separate matter that the 22-year-old was at the property.

When officers attended, a six-year-old girl opened the door and confirmed Beilby was inside.

There were four children in the property, aged from five to 15, together with their mother.

Beilby, who was convicted of communicating with a 12-year-old girl over the internet and encouraging her to engage in sexual activity, was arrested and interviewed where he confirmed to officers he knew the conditions of his order.

Miss Lovegrove said he told police he had visited the property to see a friend and the children were there. He had not told the mother about his conviction.

Beilby, of no fixed address, said he had made a “huge mistake” and was sorry for wasting police time. He admitted a charge of breaching his order.

Barry Newton, defending, said his client had struggled to find accommodation and was living at various friends’ addresses, and was not working or claiming benefit.

His said despite this, Beilby had managed to keep appointments required as part of the order.

Sentencing, District Judge Nigel Cadbury said he was prepared to accept this was the first breach of the order and that Beilby had not stayed over nor had any “nefarious intent”.

He deferred sentencing for six months.
