NOT one but three of the world’s favourite ballets are coming to Malvern Theatres.

The Russian State Ballet and Orchestra of Siberia will be staging performances of the much-loved ballets Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote and The Nutcracker in late February/early March.

Don Quixote is a ballet with a Spanish flavour, a story based on a novel by Miguel de Cervantes. The enchanting story is about an elderly nobleman, a chivalrous, romantic eccentric, whose name gives us the word Quixotic. It is a ballet packed with brave knights, beautiful ladies, romantic love, duels and plenty of Spanish passion. This production by the acclaimed Russian ballet company is a showpiece of thrilling ballet technique with plenty of swash-buckling panache. Performances are on Monday, February 28, and Tuesday, March 1, at 7.30pm.

The second ballet from the Russian company is based on one of the most famous love stories in the world, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. This timeless and tragic tale is brought to life through dance in a brand new production set to Prokofiev’s famous score. Lavish sets and beautiful costumes evoke Renaissance Verona with all its bitter family feuds, passionate encounters and terrible twists of fate. Romeo and Juliet is on Wednesday, March 2, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm and on Thursday, March 3, at 7.30pm.

The Nutcracker is a ballet traditionally associated with Christmas as the magical story takes place as night falls on Christmas Eve. The Nutcracker transports the audience from a cosy fireside into an enchanting world where dolls and toy soldiers come to life, to a world of dancing sweets and the Sugar Plum Fairy, to a place were battles are fought with gangs of mice and where a nutcracker doll is transformed into a handsome prince. This famous fantasy ballet set to Tchaikovsky’s memorable music is on Friday, March 4, at 7.30pm and Saturday, March 5, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

Tickets cost from £22.50 to £30 and today, Friday, February 18, is the last chance to get a £5 discount on tickets booked through the box office. Special offers are also available to anyone booking for two or all three ballets. Call the box office on 01684 892277.
