THIS summer, as part of Anim18 celebrations, The Courtyard in Hereford

will hosting a series of films, a workshop and post film discussion to celebrate British animation.

Anim18 is a UK-wide celebration of British animation, taking place to “showcase the best of British talent – past, present and future – through a programme of screenings, activities and events”.

A spokesman said: “Top of the World (PG) kicks off the celebration with a selection of animated films that showcase work of late 20th Century animators. “The films show the different mediums used by up and coming artists and feature animated battles, a night out, a visit to the fun fair and the domestication of a sizeable British Bulldog.”

The spokesman added: “Following the films on Saturday June 30, Hereford College of Arts will be hosting a free animation workshop for those who are interested in taking a peek behind the scenes of popular animated films like Isle of Dogs, Early Man and Caroline.

“Coming of Age (12A) features a number of films that show how animation flourished as both an industry and an art form in post-WWII Britain. The programme highlights the work of Bob Godfrey and three films by Yellow Submarine Director, George Dunning, alongside independent works by female animators that explore femininity, philandering and faith.”

Afterwards, Shrewsbury based, international award-winning animator Samantha Moore will be hosting a post film discussion and question and answer session.

The spokesman added: “Sam will share one of her own shorts, doubled up (2004), recently screened at BFI Southbank as part of their animation festival and will talk about her recent work and experiences as a female animator.

A New History of British Animation will be at The Courtyard from Saturday 30 June - Saturday 9 July.
