Following on from the success of Gangsta Granny, Birmingham Stage Company in their 25th anniversary year mark this special date with a world premiere stage adaption of David Walliams' book Awful Auntie.

Twelve year old Lady Stella Saxby heiress to Saxby Hall is left orphaned in a car crash that tragically killed both of her parents.

Stella wrapped in bandages has been in a coma for weeks cared for by her Awful Auntie - eccentric Aunt Alberta who is prepared to do whatever it takes to deprive her of her inheritance and in turn take ownership of Saxby Hall.

Alberta is played by Timothy Speyer, larger than life and throughly seemed to enjoy his role - assisted by her henchman Wagner, who is actually a huge owl.

Lady Saxby realising the threat rapidly comes comes up with an escape plan with the help of the ghost of the house, Soot which sees them running around the house as they search for clues of her parents death.

Mischievous and innocent Stella is play by Georgina Leonidas, who played Katie Bell, Harry's fellow Gryffindor Quidditch player in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Charismatic Ashley Cousins, the ghost has great chemistry with Stella, his cockney rhyming slang is cool - i'm brown bread... ?

The devilish pair booby trap Alberta's room for when she wakes up, the consequences are highly amusing bringing lots of laughter especially to the younger ones in the audience.

Jacqueline Trousdale set and costume designer has produced a brilliant set of rotating towers which lead you from place to place - kids would love to have fun in them.

In the programme David Walliams was asked 'What makes a 'good book' for a child? His reply 'I think a good children's book should be funny and exciting, and have a message that makes you think about it long after you have finished reading it - this stage adaption does just that.

Runs until Saturday, 5th May at the Bristol Hippodrome.
