KONGERO sounds like an alternative Australian spelling for a hopping marsupial, but in fact it’s the name of top Swedish folk group.

And the good news is, the band is on its way to Colwall, to put a spring in the step of a local audience, next Saturday, April 21.

Tim Dixon, concert organiser said: “The fabulous Swedish folk group Kongero are making a rare UK appearance at Colwall Village Hall, performing a benefit concert for Colwall Orchard Group.

“We were captivated by Kongero’s beautiful voices and jumped at the chance to welcome them to Colwall. We have built up strong links with Scandinavian musicians over the last few years, and we can guarantee that this will be an extraordinary evening of flawless musicianship”.

Tim added: “ A concert with Kongero will take the listener on a fabulous journey, an all-embracing Scandinavian folk music experience.

“Their repertoire consists of traditional and self-penned songs and tunes arranged by the members. Kongero tells tales of life, with moving love songs, dramatic medieval ballads, witty ditties, and spirited dances.”

He said: “Their music is characterised by tight harmonies, inciting rhythms and the clarity of their beautiful voices.

“Kongero is one of Sweden’s leading vocal groups with traditional and folk music repertoire. The group consists of four skilled singers who together, curiously and freely, explores vocal possibilities and pushes the boundaries in both traditional folk music and vocal music.

“With their voices moving together in tight harmony or intertwining in a whirling tempo, Kongero draws traditional Swedish music from out of the past and into the present. Kongero perform their music with both dignity, warmth and humour.”

Kongero has released four albums, including “Kom”, last year.

The doors and the bar will open at 7.15pm. Kongero will be on stage at 8pm.
