A STREET theatre competition offering the chance to win £750 and a professional booking has been launched.

Worcester Festival, which runs during August, has opened the opportunity to amateur groups or individuals and is dangling the promise of cash and a slot at next year’s festival in front of budding hopefuls.

The performances must be staged at designated venues in front of live audiences on the streets of the city and can include music, drama, comedy, circus skills and general performance.

Festival Director Chris Jaeger said: “Street theatre is one of the oldest forms of performing arts.

“Cities and towns that embrace the art form benefit from improved visitor experiences and higher numbers of tourists.

“We want to support new and emerging talent and street theatre is a great way to do that.”

Street performer, actor, director and Worcester Festival committee member, Ben Humphrey, will be on the judging panel.
