BRITAIN’S leading sea shanties group, Kimber’s Men, are coming to the Market Theatre in Ledbury next week.

Kimber’s Men never fail to entertain and audiences have raved over their harmonies, which are described as superb.

They play a selection of instruments and write some of their own songs and have performed at an impressive list of sea and folk festivals from Ireland and Scotland to Denmark and Holland. In Britain they have sung at festivals as far afield as Aberdeen, Cornwall and Jersey.

Formed in the summer of 2001 they now comprise Dave Buckley (ship’s captain), Gareth Scott (powder monkey) and founding members the ship’s cook, doctor and bosun.

Recently featured in the BBC4 television production of Sea Songs, Kimber’s Men have released five CDs, which are on sale in garden centres and gift shops as well as more obvious places like Tesco and Amazon Founder member Joe Stead is a friend of the legendary American singer-songwriter Pete Seeger, who wrote such classics as ‘Where have all the flowers gone?’ and ‘Take this hammer’.

Kimber’s Men want to make you laugh, join in and sing and generally entertain. If you want an idea of what to expect you can see them on YouTube.

They are at the Market Theatre on Saturday, February 26, at 8pm. Tickets cost £10 or £8 for students and are available from the Tourist Information Centre in The Masters House in Ledbury or by calling 01531 636147.
