PEOPLE can enjoy a walk around the gardens of a Worcester home covered in hundreds of Christmas fairy lights, inflatables and figurines.

Mick and Norma Gale have officially opened Santa's Garden at 66 Christine Avenue, Rushwick for 2022.

People gathered on Saturday night for the grand opening with the Midlands Air Ambulance critical care car and Father Christmas himself paying a visit.

Families can visit the gardens for free or make a donation to the charity with almost £500 already raised.

This year, they are asking people to look around the back garden one group at a time and have hand sanitiser stations available.

Mr Gale said: "The opening night on Saturday was absolutely brilliant.

"When Father Christmas came out the children went crackers.

"We had about 100 people and people were happy to wait their turn to see the decorations.

"I don't think some people are aware we have decorations in our back garden as we have people drive by and slow down to look.

"One family got out of their car in the pyjamas and looked around so I said there was more around the back.

"I could hear them saying 'Oh this is awesome'.

"We have all ages come along - older people and young children - we even had a six-month-old baby."

Santa's Garden is open every day from 5.30pm to 10pm until Tuesday, December 28 and is also open on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

"I think on Christmas Eve we will get quite a crowd of people.

"Lots of people say they're going to tell their friends or neighbours so I think we will get more and more people come down who don't know about us.

"It's all for a good cause, the air ambulance, which is not government funded and relies on the public for funding.

"It's an essential emergency service."

Talking about why he and wife Norma enjoyed running Santa's Garden, Mr Gale said they enjoyed meeting new people.

"We like to get to meet other people and bring them some Christmas cheer.

"It's great when people tell us how Christmassy it makes us feel."
