STORM Arwen caused chaos across Worcestershire with trees falling, buildings damaged and events being cancelled.

The storm saw winds of up to 50mph as well as rain and snow across the county this weekend.

In Worcester, the wind saw a piece of masonry fall and damage the roof of Worcester Cathedral, causing its weekend events to be cancelled while repairs got underway.

Elsewhere, the storm saw a slightly bizarre scene as the telephone pole outside the Henwick Vets had an unusual addition - a long length of Drainpipe from a local property.

Fire and Rescue staff had to scale the pole and remove the pole before it travelled again due the chance of it hitting traffic.

Around the county, a large number of trees were reported as falling down, causing roads to be blocked throughout Saturday.

Worcestershire County Council's highways department said at least 40 trees had been felled and encouraged residents to report them to the authorities.

Police in Malvern warned the public to stay off the roads during Storm Arwen, with yet more trees having to be removed across the district.

A tweet from Malvern Cops said motorists should take care while driving, with their teams having been out helping move fallen trees throughout Saturday morning.

The tweet said: "Avoid travel on the roads today unless absolutely necessary.

"Malvern officers have been clearing trees in Welland, Guarlford, Hanley Swan and at British Camp."

On Sunday, the Met Office issued a yellow warning for ice, saying it could lead to snow coming through in the evening.
