THE scout and guides hut in Upton has been given a much-needed makeover.
The roof of the site has been repaired as well as refurbishing the grounds.
This allows the Laburnum Walk building to continue hosting scout and guides meetings.
A spokesman for the groups said: "As with so many buildings of this type the Scout and Guide HQ in Upton upon Severn has seen better days.
"We are happy to announce the end of a long and successful campaign to improve the building and grounds.
"This was all set in motion by Kevin Tyrrell and Michael Redman who gave a lot of time, energy and materials to complete small, but essential, maintenance tasks.
"But this was only going to be a temporary solution to a long running problem and so a major fundraising campaign was started."
The first major step forward in the refurb was a donation from Upton residents Eleanor Grigson to repair the roof back in 2014.
Without this money, it was feared the building would not be structurally sound.
Even more significantly, a grant of £50,000 was secured from the Garfield Weston Foundation to rescue the rest of the building and grounds and restore them to a fit state.
Now the area immediately surrounding the scout hut has been cleared and improved, as well as the facade of the building itself.
The spokesman added: "The Garfield Weston grant in particular enabled a complete repair and refurbishment scheme, which has now been finished.
"No longer an eyesore and disgrace, the HQ is now a proud reflection of the community it serves now and for the future."
A special plaque has been put in place at the site to commemorate the refurbishment efforts.
It was unveiled in a ceremony by Mayor of Upton Cllr Henrietta Ross and scout leader Hannah Hopkins.
