POLICE have provided an update on the future of police station front counters after its suspension earlier this week.

The survey relates to the cutting back of the opening hours of West Mercia Police's six stations including Worcester's station in Castle Street.

The survey originally launched on Monday, (October 11), for those wanting to have their say, which could have determined how long police station front counters are open for locals to see officers face-to-face.

But after just one day the force announced the questionnaire was being withdrawn.

Now it has been relaunched the police have said, after being revised to make it more comprehensive.

The revised survey removes a specific proposal for new opening times and days of front counters and instead now seeks to obtain public feedback on their preferred non-emergency contact methods when needing to communicate with the force.

The survey is open until October 29.

Assistant Chief Constable Rachel Jones said: “It is really important to us that we hear the views of our communities and let people have their say to ensure we are making informed decisions.

“We know the way people contact and engage with us is changing, more people are using phone or digital channels and it is important we adapt and are flexible to meet these changes.”

In a previous statement the assistant chief constable said: "I want to reassure people, that the current proposal would see the force retain all six of its front counters with only a slight reduction in opening hours. It does not propose to change the services provided by front counter staff, or police officer numbers within the community.”

Members of the public who cannot or do not wish to respond to an electronic survey can call West Mercia Police on 07970 709975 and request one be sent to them. Copies will also be available from front counters.

The survey can be accessed by visiting the force's website westmercia.police.uk.

The survey is open to October 29.
