Detectives in Middlesbrough who are investigating two incidents in the early hours of Sunday morning (21st April) have released CCTV images of a man they believe could help with their enquiries into reported incidents of sexual assault and robbery. They would like to hear from anyone who believes they know his identity, or indeed the man himself. Police are currently linking the two incidents; the first happened at the rear of The Empire on Corporation Road in the town centre at around 4.20am on Sunday, where a woman was sexually assaulted. Fortunately she did not suffer any physical injuries. A short time later, around 5am, a woman was on Newport Road near Middlesbrough Bus Station when she was approached by a man, who assaulted her before making off with her backpack. The man in the image is described as 5ft 9” to 5ft 10” tall, with a thin face, brown eyes, thin build and dark hair which is short on the sides but messy on top and has unkempt facial hair. He can be seen in the image wearing a green coat with a hood, dark jogging bottoms and white Nike trainers. We would appeal for anyone with information, anyone who was in the area at the time or drivers with dashcam footage of either or both incidents to contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number quoting ref 072420. If you don’t want to speak to police you can pass information anonymously to orlo.uk/f6gzo or phone them on 0800 555 111.
