Established in 1972 by Laurence and Joan Harper, Harpers Bazaar moved to Malvern Link from Worcester 34 years ago. The origins of the business were as Government Surplus Dealers, retailing and exporting mainly clothing and furniture.

There are still plenty of customers who come into the shop on Worcester Road and comment on the high quality of the furniture that they bought all those years ago.

Around this time the MOD put the BBC in touch with Laurence when it was preparing to film a programme called The Vanishing Army. They ended up supplying everything for the barracks and NAFFI scenes. Since then furniture and other surplus has been supplied by Harpers for various blockbuster movies including The English Patient, Casino Royale and the Harry Potter series.

In recent years the business has evolved with furniture and surplus being replaced by tents and camping equipment, though they still have a big trade in providing clothing and equipment for the military cadets in the area.

Chris runs the shop now, and with a huge array of products they can cater for anyone who enjoys the outdoor life, from waterproof jackets and fleeces to industrial clothing and footwear.

Harpers are also stockist of Scout and Guide uniforms.

Chris and his team pride themselves on their customer service and product knowledge and so can provide practical advice on anything from trips to the Andes to shoes for the garden, and have a reputation of being a source for items that cannot be found anywhere else.

Harpers Bazaar is open 9-15 to 5-30 Monday to Saturday and can also be found online at www.harpersmalvern.co.uk.
