This diverse curriculum, comprising 90 full-time and 320 part-time courses, provides excellent choice for learners, many of whom travel to our campuses from a wide geographical area. Learning opportunities are available in most programme areas at foundation, intermediate, advanced and higher education levels. The reputation of the College and its specialist courses draw learners from throughout the UK and overseas. Niche provision, which is important to the Country’s rural economy, includes blacksmithing, farriery, thatching, wheelwrighting, upholstery, furniture making, forestry and other land-based courses.
HCT has a total cohort of some 1,900 full-time and 5,000 part-time learners, equating to 2,500 full-time equivalent learners. The majority of the full-time learners, 1,350, are age 16-18. The College also trains over 400 apprentices, and 400 learners are studying higher education courses.
Outcomes for students at HCT are very good. Student retention rates are good and achievement rates are in many cases outstanding. In May 2010, Ofsted3 found the College to be “good” in all five key areas: Overall effectiveness of provision; capacity to improve; outcomes for learners; quality of provision; and leadership and management, and noted the strong improvement in success rates in recent years.
The College’s success is the result of its committed and talented staff. HCT is a rich community of staff and learners with an ethos of respect, professionalism and a desire to succeed. One of the largest employers in Herefordshire, with over 500 staff (300 full-time equivalent), the College is an important player in the community, public and business life of the County.
