WORCESTER Wolves have acted quickly to sign Trey Zeigler after Andrew Bachman suffered a calf injury.

The 6ft 6in forward has joined Wolves for the remainder of the British Basketball League campaign.

And delighted head coach Paul James believes the American is “perfectly suited” to his side’s style.

Zeigler replaces Bachman who sustained a torn calf muscle in training last week and is expected to be out for about two months.

James said: “It was important that we tried to fill the gap left by Andrew Bachman’s injury quickly and I’m pleased that the club has responded so quickly to get this deal done.”

Zeigler started the season with BBC Bascharage, in Luxembourg, where he averaged 20.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game and had a professional spell for JBC MMCITE Brno in the Czech Republic.

Having flew into the UK from Dallas on Wednesday, there is a chance Zeigler could make his debut against London Lions on Friday.

However, this is dependent upon all the paperwork being completed in the next two days.

James added: “Trey‘s all-around game is perfectly suited to our style of play.

“He is a little different to what we have at present and will contribute in many different ways, giving us more scoring and defensive options.

“I’m sure he is going to make a good impact on the team.”

Zeigler’s college career started at Central Michigan where he spent two seasons, averaging over 15 points, five rebounds and two assists per game each season.

He transferred to the University of Pittsburgh where his father was an assistant coach before finishing at Texas Christian University in the Big 12 conference where he averaged 10 points, four rebounds and two assists per game.

Wolves’ managing director Mick Donovan said: “We felt that it was really important to send a message out to the Wolves fans that this season is still very much alive and the signing of Trey will hopefully reinforce that and bring a lift to the team as we go into the ‘business end’ of the season.”
