WORCESTER Wolves are “pulling out all the stops” to make a new signing who can “fill the void” left by injured Andrew Bachman.

The small forward has been ruled out for two months after sustaining a torn calf prior to Wolves’ heavy BBL Trophy semi-final defeat at Plymouth Raiders last week.

But James insisted Worcester have been “desperately searching” for his replacement and were hopeful of getting a new player in place before their home clash against London Lions in the British Basketball League on Friday (7.30pm).

“Andrew did the injury in training as he landed a little awkwardly and his calf just went,” said James, whose side beat Manchester Giants 91-74 last Friday.

“It has not been diagnosed fully, but injuries like that don’t heal very easily, so we are potentially looking at anywhere between five and eight weeks, maybe more.

“Until the swelling goes down sufficiently enough to look at it properly we are not going to be able to know for sure.

“But it is definitely a long-term injury which is really disappointing for Andrew as he has had some great games for us and we wish him a speedy recovery.”

Since joining Worcester from Tiffin College last summer, 6ft 6in Bachman has made 19 appearances, averaging 11.11 points per game.

James said there was an “outside chance” the 23-year-old American would be back fit for the end-of-season play-offs if Wolves qualify.

But he admits they “can’t take the risk” waiting for him to return and were keen to push ahead with plans to bolster their squad.

“We are desperately searching for somebody to come in and fill that void as Andrew is going to be out for so long and we are going to be shorthanded,” James added.

“The club are pulling out all the stops to try to make it happen so hopefully we are going to have some news soon on another player coming in.

“It needs to happen very quickly, ideally before the end of the month.”
