WORCESTER Wolves have been guilty of not going to prolific scorer Maurice Walker enough in “key moments”, according to head coach Paul James.

The 6ft 10in Canadian forward has been a “tremendous” asset to Wolves since arriving from Latvian side Valmiera in November.

Walker has the highest average for points (22.7) and rebounds (11.2) in the British Basketball League after recording six successive double-doubles.

And the 25-year-old was named on the bench in BBL’s coveted All Star Five this week after registering 25 points and 11 rebounds in Wolves’ 87-84 defeat to Plymouth Raiders last Friday.

However, James admitted his side, who face Sheffield Sharks in the BBL Trophy first round at the University of Worcester Arena tomorrow night (7.30pm), needed to find more ways to make use of Walker.

“Mo has come in and been tremendous,” said the Worcester boss.

“But maybe in those key moments we have not gone to him enough because when he gets the ball things happen.

“Whether he is scoring or creating for other people, things happen so that is something we need to look at as a team.”

Captain Marek Klassen also leads the way with assists in the league with an average of 6.9 per game.

But, with Wolves struggling in seventh position after 10 losses from 15 games, James says it is important every one of his team are “playing well at the same time”.

He added: “Marek is maybe down on his points this season but certainly assist-wise he is up there so we have got quality in the team.

“But it is just about having that consistency where everybody is playing well at the same time for us to be a really good team.

“I don’t think we have anybody who is going to break out with a 35-point game so we have to be a team and need everybody to do their bit for it to work.”
