PROMISING Worcestershire paceman George Scrimshaw is set to make his first appearance of the season for the seconds.

Scrimshaw has been included in the squad for tomorrow’s T20 double header against Durham at Burnopfield.

The 19-year-old was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his lower back after returning early from a Young Lions training camp in the UAE in December.

But scans at Loughborough showed the fracture has healed and since then Scrimshaw has been undergoing rehabilitation work in the gym and bowling drills.

Scrimshaw carried out 12th-man duties during last week’s Specsavers County Championship win over Kent at New Road.

Now he is poised for a taste of action with coach Kevin Sharp’s side in the second piece of encouraging fitness news in a week.

Fellow paceman Charlie Morris returned for the seconds in the T20s and Championship games against Northamptonshire following his recovery from an ankle problem.

Burton-born Scrimshaw recently signed a new long-term contract with Worcestershire and is another prospect with plenty of potential to have emerged via the flourishing academy.

He was called up by England under 19s for the second Test against Sri Lanka at Northampton last summer but had to pull out because of a toe injury.
