DEPARTING Worcester Warriors head coach Carl Hogg is set to join Scotland's coaching staff on an interim basis this summer.

Hogg will work with the forwards alongside assistant coach Dan McFarland on the tour to Canada, USA and Argentina.

The appointment has been made off the back of McFarland's decision to leave the national team set-up to become Ulster's next head coach on a three-year deal.

But Scottish Rugby have confirmed McFarland would remain in his current position during his nine-month notice period while the "recruitment process for his replacement gets underway".

Warriors director of rugby Alan Solomons said: “It’s great news for Hoggy and I have no doubt that he’ll do an excellent job.”

Former Scotland flanker Hogg was initially brought in from Gloucester as number two to then director of rugby Dean Ryan in 2013.

In his second season at Warriors he oversaw British and Irish Cup success and promotion from the Championship.

When Ryan left in June 2016 he took joint charge with Nick Johnston and was then given sole responsibility but Warriors struggled for results.

The 48-year-old returned to his role as head coach when Gary Gold was appointed director of rugby in January 2017.

After Alan Solomons succeeded Gold in late December, Hogg announced he would be leaving at the end of the season when his contract runs out.

Rory Duncan will replace Hogg as Warriors head coach ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.
