DUNCAN Weir remains on director of rugby Alan Solomons’ wish list as he looks to secure the fly-half’s services this season.

The Scotland international was close to joining Warriors on a short-term loan last month before being recalled by Edinburgh.

Worcester have agreed a two-year deal with Australian ace Jono Lance who will return to Sixways ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

But Solomons has not given up on Weir who has won 27 caps for Scotland as he bids to bolster his options at fly-half.

“We will just have to wait and see how things unfold. I am not ruling that out,” said Solomons on his efforts to capture the 26-year-old.

Asked whether he was looking to land Weir this term, Solomons replied: “Correct.

“We are concerned (with the situation) at the moment and our focus is on where we are this season.”

Weir who has recently overcome an abdominal injury trained with Warriors’ players ahead of his proposed move and Marco Marco posted a picture on social media of the Scot at Sixways.

He then return to Edinburgh who were depleted by injuries and international call-ups and landed a last-gasp drop goal in their win over Ulster.

The stand-off will leave the Scottish club in the summer but it is not known where his future lies.

Jamie Shillcock has worn the number 10 shirt for Warriors’ past three Aviva Premiership games and is expected to start against Leicester Tigers at Sixways on Sunday (3pm).

Solomons sang the praises of 20-year-old, insisting his game management had “come on leaps and bounds”.

“I have been really pleased with what he has done at a very tough time,” Solomons said.

“He is a young boy in a key position and I think he has done really well.

“Firstly he has shown a lot of courage in terms of his defence.

“We all know he is a very talented young footballer but I think his game management has come on leaps and bounds.

“He has done really well in very tough circumstances.”

Solomons admitted Shillcock was benefiting from being “sandwiched between” two experienced players at scrum-half and inside centre.

“It has been advantageous for Shilly that he has had Ryan Mills outside of him as he is an outstanding player,” Solomons continued.

“He has got a really good head on his shoulders.

“Shilly has also had experience inside of him in either Francois Hougaard or Jonny Arr, so he has been in a good position.”

With Tom Heathcote out with concussion, Sam Olver has also been given a chance to nail down the fly-half position.

But the 23-year-old who has made 13 appearances this season has not been named in the matchday squad for the past three weeks.

“There is competition for places,” Solomons added.

“Sam and Shilly have both had opportunities and Shillly is out in front at the moment.”
