PERRY Humphreys has trained “unbelievably well” this week as he bids to face former club Leicester Tigers at Welford Road tomorrow (3pm).

The 23-year-old wing has scored three tries in five appearances in the Aviva Premiership for Worcester Warriors this season.

But the ex-Tigers academy ace was not named in the 23-matchday squad last weekend as Josh Adams and Bryce Heem secured the spots on the flanks with in-form back Dean Hammond selected on the bench.

Warriors went on to end their seven-match losing streak in the league with a 30-15 victory over Northampton Saints as Heem bagged a hat-trick and Adams also crossed the whitewash.

Director of rugby Gary Gold said Humphreys who took part in an England training camp in May was “very disappointed” to miss out but had responded brilliantly.

“Perry has trained unbelievably well,” Gold said.

“He is obviously very disappointed and I would not want it any other way.

“He is a competitive guy and has been outstanding for us.

“Luckily we have got a very competitive situation in the back three and Perry is definitely going to play a lot of first team rugby.”

Having picked up maximum points against Saints and moved off the bottom, Gold is unlikely to make many changes for the trip to Tigers.

But Scotland back rower David Denton has recovered from a knee injury and hooker Kurt Haupt has overcome concussion to be available for selection.

Leicester will be without Jonny May, George Ford, Ben Youngs, Dan Cole and Ellis Genge who are on England duty.

Gold described Genge as “critical” to Tigers’ scrum but he still expected a forward battle against the 10-time Premiership champions.

“I think they are going to be more physical than what Northampton were,” Gold said.

“They are a very direct team and dominate the gain-line quite effectively with their big runners.

“It is going to have be an area where we have to stop them.

“It makes a big difference when you have got Nick Schonert.

“He has now become one of the better, more experienced tightheads in the Premiership.

“He did a very good job for us last weekend and will give the guys a lot of confidence at scrum-time.”

Leicester sit in third position in the table after winning six of their first eight league games.

“They have got some amazing rugby players and have got a massive squad with quality throughout it,” Gold added.

“When you go to Welford Road it feels like you are playing against 16 of them.

“It’s a club trying to find their way in the top echelons of the game again so it’s going to be an almighty challenge for us.”
