AN “OUTSTANDING bonding session” in Barcelona has helped to bring Worcester Warriors’ players closer together, admits new signing Sam Olver.

Warriors flew out to the Spanish city for “a few days” last week in a bid to improve the camaraderie in the camp ahead of the upcoming Aviva Premiership campaign.

Fly-half Olver is among seven new faces to join Worcester this summer having made the move from Northampton Saints.

And although he praised his teammates for making him feel comfortable when he arrived in June, the 22-year-old said the trip was “important” for the squad.

“It has been really good so far, the boys have helped me settle in and everyone has been very friendly,” Olver said.

“We had a little trip away to Spain last week which was an outstanding bonding session.

“We were all in Barcelona for a few days, so it was for team building as I got to know a lot of people.

“I think it is important to get to know each other outside of rugby because you come in on a daily basis and only know the person as a rugby player, so to have the bonding session like that was really good.

“Before that trip, there were certain players that I had not spoken to and had much to do with.

“That trip has brought us all together, so it was a really good experience for us.”

After two months of hard graft on the training field, Olver said he also delighted to make his Warriors debut last Saturday.

The number 10 came on the second half in Warriors’ 55-21 win over Hartpury, landing three conversions.

“To finally get out there was great fun and I really enjoyed putting on the Worcester jersey for the first time,” he said.

“I think it is always a case of blowing off the cobwebs when it is your first game back after quite a long time off, but overall I was pretty pleased.

“It was fairly loose at times, but I think we got our processes pretty right.

“There were good structures in our exits and our set piece went pretty well, so it was a good outing for the boys and great to finally get some rugby under our belts.”

Warriors take on Birmingham Moseley at Billesley Common on Friday (7.30pm).
