WORCESTER Warriors back row Sam Lewis could be an outside bet for Wales’ summer tour to the Pacific Islands.

The Swansea-born flanker gave interim Wales head coach Rob Howley a reminder of his ability in Warriors’ 25-19 Aviva Premiership win against Bath.

Howley was in the stands at Sixways and would have been impressed with how Lewis dominated South African ace Francois Louw.

Wales’ trip includes Test matches against Tonga on June 16 and Samoa on June 23 or 24.

Head coach Warren Gatland is leading the British and Irish Lions with Howley as part of his backroom team.

Forwards coach Robin McBryde assumes the head coach responsibilities.

The Wales squad is being announced next week.

“I thought Sam was outstanding against Bath,” said Warriors’ director of rugby Gary Gold.

“He played a classic open side’s role and was outstanding with the ball in hand.

“Everyone has perceptions that an open side needs to be over the ball defensively but somebody has to get in there before the opposition.

“He was playing against one of the best in the world in Louw and I think he put in an unbelievable shift. He’s very good with ball in hand and good at line breaks.”

Lewis joined Warriors from Ospreys in March 201 and has made 20 appearances, scoring five tries.

He signed his first professional contract with Ospreys in 2012 after impressing during a spell at Welsh Principality Premiership side Swansea before going on to make 65 appearances for the Liberty Stadium outfit.

But the 26-year-old insists he’s not thinking about international honours.

“I am really not looking at that at the moment so I just want to keep playing and starting for Worcester. That’s my main objective at the moment,” he said.

Fellow Swansea-born player Josh Adams, the former Wales Under 20 wing, has enjoyed a superb breakthrough campaign at Warriors.

Adams, 22, is Worcester’s leading try-scorer with 13 tries from 23 appearances this term.

The explosive wing finished off a superb move against Bath for Warriors’ opening try in front of the watching Howley.

Gold said: “Josh is such an explosive force from the back and has got a good left boot as well.

"He's a tall lad so he’s very confident under the high ball and it's nice to have flexibility because he can play at full-back or ion the wing."

Lewis said: “If you put Josh in space he will finish it off. Josh has been great for us all season."
