WORCESTER Warriors' gut-wrenching defeat at Wasps last season is still etched into the mind of tighthead prop Nick Schonert.

The South African-born player was floored like his team-mates when Wasps overturned a 22-20 deficit with two minutes remaining to seal a remarkable 32-20 triumph.

It was a heart-breaking finish for Warriors who led 13-3 at the interval.

“I made 15 or 16 tackles in that game and I’ve never been so tired in my life,” recalled Schonert, who starts in the front row on Sunday.

“The next morning I thought I was turning into Forest Gump because I could not feel my legs.”

Warriors looked stunned at the final whistle after failing to pick up a losing bonus point from a game they deserved to win.

Many Warriors supporters will be delighted if they take a bonus point from their trip to Coventry.

Despite still seeking their first away points on their Premiership travels this term, 25-year-old Schonert insists Warriors will be aiming to shock the leaders.

“I won’t go there looking for a bonus point,” he said.

"I will go out for four points.

“I always say that if you go out for a losing bonus point you shouldn’t be in this game.

“When I walk on to that field I am not playing thw whole of Wasps I am playing the tighthead in front of me.

“If I beat him, I win my game.

“I suppose it’s on the borderline of being arrogant.

“We would be happy with a bonus point, of course we would.

“But if we go in with an attitude like that we will go down by 40 points.

“If you are a sportsman you don’t play teams to get losing bonus points, you play teams to get four or five points.”

Warriors should be acutely aware of Wasps’ attacking threat.

Christian Wade scored six tries to equal a Premiership record in Wasps' 54-35 win against Warriors at Sixways in April last year.

Schonert, who has played 15 times in the Premiership this term, said: “Wasps bring a different threat with guys like Danny Cipriani.

“They like to play wide and keep us heavies in the middle guessing all the time.

“We have done our homework and worked on our strengths and also what we think Wasps will bring. We are feeling confident.

“I believe the league table is a false economy because any team can put any other team away on the day and if they put their game on the field.

“With passion and resilience you can beat any team and we are looking to put our game on the field and express ourselves.”

The prop added: “It’s been tough on the away trips but we are looking to change that.

"The only way we can do that is by putting our game on the field.

“Wasps are a very good outfit, a well-oiled and slick side, so to beat them you have to be even better than them.”
