REGAINING momentum is Malvern RFC’s aim when they face a side who have had a similar season to their’s tomorrow, according to director of rugby Andy Longley.

The Spring Lane side travel to Old Northamptonians (ko 3pm) looking to bounce back from last Saturday’s 43-10 defeat at National Three Midlands leaders Bromsgrove.

Both Malvern and Old Northamptonians lie in mid-table on 59 points after 22 games but Longley has called on his side to end their season with a flourish, after losing three of their last five matches.

But inside-centre Richard Fleming, openside flanker Simon Daws and loosehead prop Joe Baker are all unavailable for tomorrow’s clash. However, outside-centre Adam Billig returns to the side after being sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Number eight Shaun Robinson, scrum-half Liam Gwynne and loose-head prop Oli Kitching are all in contention after returning to the squad from their respective universities.

Longley said: “We need to get a bit of momentum back.

“We want to go on a winning run to finish the season off.

“Old Northamptonians are in an almost identical position to us. They have had a very similar season to ourselves, they are on the same points as us.

“I imagine it will be a fairly tight game. It will come down to who wants it the most.

“We were disappointed with the Bromsgrove game, we didn’t really make them work hard enough.

“We are struggling with squad numbers now, it’s getting a bit thin as we’ve got a few niggling injuries now.”
